Our Committee

Glitter is run by a small group of volunteers, who do big things.

Founder & Co-Chair

Vish (they/them) works in Mental Health and is dedicated to amplifying the voices and identities of the BAME LGBT+ community. Vish identifies as queer, Indian and Welsh. Vish created Glitter Cymru to provide a non-judgmental safe space for BAME LGBT+ people in South Wales to make friends, gain support and feel acknowledged.

Co-Chair

Rania (she/her) is currently an ESRC-funded Doctoral Researcher/Academic Tutor in the School of Social Sciences at Cardiff University. Rania’s research focuses on queer asylum policy. Rania grew up in Athens to a Turko-Egyptian family.

Treasurer

Numair (he/him) has experienced first-hand how being a member of the LGBT+ community can be life threatening. As someone who has successfully claimed asylum in the UK, Numair is passionate about representing and amplifying the voices of marginalised individuals. Numair works as a researcher at Cardiff University where he investigates key issues surrounding animal welfare and infectious diseases.

Communications Officer

Zara (she/her or they/them) is a Masters Student studying Artificial Intelligence and has worked in marketing and as a programmer. She is passionate about working towards reversing/preventing bias with AI technology.

She, along with Rania, co-founded the womxn’s branch of Glitter – Glitter Sisters International.

Arts Outreach Officer

Abderrahim “Rahim” El Habachi (he/him) is a playwright, Belly dancer and an HIV/Aids, LGBT+ and Asylum seeker and refugee activist. He has been part of many networks and organisations to bring change to the LGBTQ+ community in his home country Morocco and reduce stigma around people living with HIV.

Education Officer

Jia Wei (he/she/they) identifies as gay and nonbinary. Jia Wei grew up in Malaysia and migrated to Wales for higher education, and is now working as a graduate employability intern for the University of South Wales Careers Team. They are passionate on empowering and inspiring others through diverse storytelling; as well as firmly believing in connecting experiences and beings around the world.
